Here’s a Thought: How About Using Sharepoint to Actually… Share?
Collaboration is a major part of the new business economy.
Small to mid-sized businesses are hungry for solutions that make collaboration easier across multiple platforms.
This is why more companies are turning to SharePoint.
Among SharePoint’s many features, its ease in collaborating is one of the major selling points.
However, companies that are newer to SharePoint are often frustrated by the lack of control they have over SharePoint within their infrastructure.
The truth is that SharePoint probably isn’t deployed and managed correctly within their small business environments.
In this post we’ll dig into some real-world tips for successfully managing SharePoint…
Six Tips for Managing SharePoint
Make a Plan for Adoption
The worst way to approach SharePoint management is by only configuring it out of the box.
The best way to approach SharePoint adoption is by creating a big-picture game plan for how the system will effect and benefit every aspect of your business.
At the very least, this should include a game plan for data management, the pieces of SharePoint that will be used across all departments within your company, and a list of who will support each component of SharePoint within your company.
Make Business Processes More Efficient Using SharePoint
Use collaboration to get the most out of your business.
Many smaller businesses utilize SharePoint’s collaboration tools to increase the overall efficiency of processes within the workplace.
You should create a SharePoint environment in which things work faster and more efficiently for your company.
Use the Built-in Extras for More Power
Remember that there is a lot more to SharePoint than just collaboration.
Don’t miss out on tools like content management, enterprise social networking, project management, analytics tools and business intelligence.
Customize the Environment
Take full advantage of the customization tools that come with SharePoint.
Yes, there are several built-in templates geared towards specific functions, but you can also develop the SharePoint platform for any type of function you want to better benefit your business.
Remember the Bigger Picture
The big problem with many companies is that they only use SharePoint for a very specific purpose.
While there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, you may be limiting your potential as a business by narrowing your approach to managing SharePoint.
Don’t Be Overconfident
You may think that once you’ve successfully deployed SharePoint, you may be an expert.
Always keep in mind that there’s always more to learn about your SharePoint system.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to hire a SharePoint expert, but rather that you need a quality SharePoint hosting provider, like Rackspace for instance, that can help you grow as you learn the best ways to take advantage of your SharePoint environment.
Odds are that you won’t need to use every single collaboration feature that SharePoint hast to offer.
But — you may need to do a little extra legwork to ensure that you’re getting your money’s worth in your SharePoint environment.
