Guidelines for Submitting a Guest Post

Guidelines for Submitting a Guest Post

Thank you for your interest in writing a guest post for The HRIS World. The term HRIS is used to cover HRIS, HRMS, HCM, and HR technology… It is a lot easier to say and remember The HRIS World instead of The HRIS, HRMS, HCM, and HR Technology World. Whenever we refer to HRIS, we are referring to all forms of acronyms that relate to the systems and management of information for Payroll, Benefits, Human Resources, Compensation, Talent Management, Applicant Tracking, Timekeeping, Payroll taxes, and the like, whether nationally or globally. I’m quite sure I missed a few arenas but these are included as well…

We have several areas we focus upon in the HRIS industry — though many of our videos are vendor specific, we keep our articles industry-centric. Which means, basically, no promoting of a specific vendor — but! We will honor articles that focus on a breakthrough in systems and/or project management that has been accomplished by any specific vendor. These articles must focus specifically on the breakthrough and its benefits, without referencing or comparing to other vendors.

We have 2 options for guidelines…

OPTION 1

We realize everyone finds submitting their first articles a bit daunting… we’re here to ‘undaunt’ the process.  If you prefer, you can submit your writing without any formating and we will professionally format it for you.  Our biggest concern is getting your ideas and thoughts shared with our readers — lacking the know-how and skills is not a problem, that’s what we are here for!

Your article does have to be original and inclusive (plagiarism will result in the immediate removal of all articles previously submitted). If and when you do use parts of someone else’s work(s), just give reference to it as you would anything else.

When you have a completed article that is ready for submittal, send it to webmaster@thehrisworld.com. We will confirm receipt of your article and will follow-up by email or phone shortly afterwards.

If you have any questions or concerns or would like to contact us with your post, please contact us via our contact form.

OPTION 2

For those that want more control over their materials,  to help you with your writing and to help us get your post ready for publishing on The HRIS World, here are a few guidelines for you…

Before you send us your submission, please make sure it…

  • conveys quality, practical advice presented with HRIS professionals in mind
  • references any locations where this is also posted besides The HRIS World
  • includes all the information—links, link text, etc. — you want the published version of your post to include
  • does NOT infringe any copyright laws
  • includes a headline, body text, and your byline
  • your headline and first paragraph are rich in keywords

Exclusivity

Unless previously negotiated, the posts you submit should be written exclusively for use by The HRIS World. Our aim is provide posts on THE HRIS World that don’t appear, or have limited appearance, in the same form elsewhere. As we are read in more than 50 countries, this may not always be possible. It is not uncommon to find the same material by the same author being shared in different countries, but within the same country we are strongly advising against, and could result in a posting being pulled. If you are not sure just ask, but it is safe to say if the countries are continents apart (like USA and Brazil), then the article is good to go — as long as YOU are the author of the postings in those countries.

Topics

Posts should be relevant to our overall topic — the HRIS industry and project management. We have a separate blog that focuses on jobs, recruiting, and career management if you have a posting that is relevant to that area of HRIS. Just contact the webmaster for more information.

Our readers love the simplistic to the heavy-theoretical. Most of our readers are in the executive and management levels — but we have many entry-level viewers as well. Give our readers information that they can apply to their work immediately, and you’ll become popular here.

Topics in which we’re particularly interested right now include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Needs assessment
  • Business analysis
  • Business processes
  • Documentation
  • Project management methodologies
  • Compliance
  • Best Practices
  • Sigma Six, Lean Sigma

Voice

Some guest posters worry about what voice or style to write in. Ultimately this is up to you. We encourage you to bring your own voice to your post.

Formatting and Markup

If you are uncomfortable entering your content directly into WordPress, the feel free to submit your content in Word or plain text format. Be sure to follow these points in preparing your post for us…

  • If you are familiar with using Styles in Word, this would be very beneficial in setting up the format of your article
  • Any links should be embedded in the wording (<ctrl-k>) or in parenthesis right after the words to by hyperlinked (just be sure to underline the words you want as a hyperlink, otherwise we will take an experienced and educated guess).
  • We use lots for different formats in our articles, if one appeals to you, then let us know the title of that article, provide the link and what you want format within the article you want to use

A note on links to your own blog…

If it’s relevant to the topic you’re writing about, you’re welcome to link back to your blog within the post. Keep in mind that this relevancy is very important. If we feel your post includes too many links back to your own blog, we may remove them, or reject the post. A high-quality, helpful post will get people checking out who you are more effectively than will lots of links back to your blog.

Post Length

Your post should be as long as you need it to be in order to convey your message.

We publish posts that vary greatly in length. Anything goes, length isn’t a factor — but quality is. Stick with your own style and voice, and choose a length that sits well with you.

Editing

All posts that appear on The HRIS World are edited. We rarely edit them heavily, but we will change titles, rework openings or conclusions, or correct grammar and spelling when necessary.

Don’t be offended by this — we’re just trying to make every post we publish as successful as possible. We also know what generally works well with The HRIS World audience.

Occasionally, we’ll send a post back to you with suggested additions, omissions, or changes. This generally suggests we feel the post could be further enhanced in ways that go beyond some basic editing.

Our hope is that we get a post that hits the mark with the readership — that’s good for you as the author, good for The HRIS World readership, and good for the blog as a whole.

Byline

You’ve worked to give us great content, so let us help you promote you. We want to highlight you, your blog, or any product or service that you have to offer. This is largely done in your byline.

Bylines should be a sentence or two explaining who you are and what you do. Feel free to include up to two links in it. Some guests include a link to an RSS feed here, which can convert well. Your byline will appear at the bottom of your post, but we’ll also write a short introductory sentence that will include your main link, and will appear at the top of the post.

When you have a completed article that is ready for submittal, send it to webmaster@thehrisworld.com. We will confirm receipt of your article and will follow-up by email or phone shortly afterwards.

If you have any questions or concerns or would like to contact us with your post, please contact us via our contact form.

Thank you for your involvement with The HRIS World.
