5 Ways to Motivate Employees to Hit Targets
Rosie Symonds, writer
One of the best ways to make a sales team or staff meet the target goal is to use incentives.
Incentives can be products that employees want or need. This means that what you are offering will make the employee work hard to reach a goal, or to get a specific account.
Discover What Your Employees’ Value
Knowing your employees and what they like helps you to choose incentives that drive revenue and results in your company. Often small incentives are the best way for small businesses to go. Usually, a gift certificate to a store or restaurant could be the right incentive for your employees. This is one of the best ways to entice employees to meet targets and goals.
Do you work with sales or marketing teams? Then set up a competition with them that rewards the whole group if they meet the goal. The group that meets the monthly sales goal gets a free lunch at local restaurant. You must find a common product or service that the groups want or enjoys.
If it is a young professional group, perhaps a monthly or yearly dinner out would be a great motivating factor. An older group might like gift certificate to a spa for a facial or a vase of fresh flowers.
Discover What Motivates Them
Knowing what motivates your teams, what drives them to compete, is how you can get them to reach their targets and goals. Don’t forget to set a goal, so that the employee can strive towards it. Doing this can help boost motivation to complete the task and move forward.
Offer cash bonuses as a reward for reaching targets or goals. Even a small bonus will motivate most employees to work harder. Offer a bonus for the best employee that get the most positive feedback from customers and/or other employees about their performance at end of the year.
Employees that go out of their way to provide excellent customer services and help customers should get a bonus each month or every 3 months. This type of reward often motivates employees to hit the target more frequently.
Make It Healthy, Literally!
Health and wellness programs for employees are another way to motivate employees to meet goals. Even a small business can implement some type of program to motivate employees to eat better and exercise. Offer free screenings by health care providers that provide them for blood pressure, blood glucose, body fat and cholesterol.
Also, provide your employees at least a 45 minute lunch and encourage them to exercise by walking outside or biking. Providing a food truck with healthy snacks, sandwiches and beverages is another way to encourage healthy eating. Reward employees that exercise with a small gift at the end of month like a book or DVD.
In addition, offer incentives for employees to use the stairs instead of elevators. Some smoking cessation programs are free in some states so your company can check to if you can find a free seminar for your company.
Recognition Goes A VERY Long Way
Remember to give your employees positive feedback. When they do a good job, tell them! Don’t just tell them what they did wrong, tell them what they do right as well.
Positive feedback is important to guide employees to reach targets and goals. Whether it is good customer service, reaching a sales quota per month, or increasing customer satisfaction, having good relationships with employees is motivation to succeed. Enforce all these concepts for motivation for success.
