We have worked with clients where only a skeleton crew worked in the office and remaining 95% were in the field and hardly, if ever, needed to make a presence in the corporate office.

While not exactly focused on cloud computing, erp, hris, and/or project management, we found this article to be of interest in providing options in the industries we normally focus upon.

Field service management software is essential for any business that sends drivers, technicians or other employees into the field.

While it may not seem that important at first when you start your business, this software can easily cut costs and help you grow.

These are all the benefit you will receive if you use field management software.

Better Tracking

Do you know exactly where your employees and inventory are?

You probably have a good idea of where they are or where they should be, but you don’t really know unless you use a tracking program.

Field management software allows you to see exactly where employees are, and you can see if your inventory is moving towards its proper destination.

Cut Costs

There are many ways that field inventory software can cut costs.

Employees sometimes take unscheduled breaks when there is no one around to supervise them, or they might take inefficient routes to reach a customer or destination.

Tracking an employee allows you to see if he or she is doing anything inappropriate, and it will help you guide the employee to quickly reach the destination.

This can also cut fuel costs.

This may not seem huge if your employees only drive small cars, but it is essential if your employees commonly drive trucks and other large vehicles.

You can help drivers avoid long routes, congested roads and other hazards that can eat up fuel.


Update Work Status

This works both ways.

The employee can remotely say that he or she finished a task via mobile software, and you can give the employee new tasks from your location.

While you can do this via a phone call, it might be a little difficult if you need to speak with 10 employees at once.

This will clog the line, and it will be stressful for everyone.

This means that employees can get more tasks done throughout the day if you use management software, and you will quickly know when the employee is done with his or her assigned task.

Data Capturing and Recognition

Most field service management software also allows you to capture and access customer information.

For example, an employee can easily enter the customer’s name, address, phone number of any other essential information for the services rendered.

This allows you to make a database of customers for marketing purposes, and it makes it easier to follow through with services.

You can also access customer information.

For example, a customer calls because your company issued a warranty on the service and the customer needs the part fixed again before the warranty is up.

You can easily use the field service management software to see the customer’s records.

This allows you to quickly render new services, and you can also follow up with other related services.


Notifications and Service Orders

You send a technician out to work on a computer, but the technician finds that the job is much bigger than anticipated.

He or she can make a note about it, but notes can be quickly lost.

If you have field service management software, then the technician can quickly make a new service order for the larger job.

This will make it easier to remember the job, and it will be easier to schedule the job with the rest of the incoming service orders.

This can also be used for recurring services.

For example, the employee can make a notification that he or she has to visit a certain customer every 60 days to render a service.

Software Integration

There are many programs that help you assess costs, work done and other information about your business.

While these programs are useful, they are much better if you pair them with field service management software.

This is because the management software will give you complete information, and it will automate many of the tasks.

This means that you have accurate records, and you have more time for other tasks.
