How Cloud Computing Can Transform Your Workplace

The typical office working day has long consisted of an office block as a base with working hours between 9 and 5.
Thanks to Cloud computing, this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case should you want more flexible working options.
In a nutshell, Cloud computing – sometimes known as cloud-based software of SaaS (Software as a Service) – enables users to access applications via the internet, creating opportunities for employees to work from home, should they need to.
Workplace Flexibility
Although the concept of employees working away from the office may be a daunting one for some employers, this is not completely new.
In fact, many have already been forced to re-think the matter earlier this year, when Londoners were told to avoid public transport if possible to ease congestion for the London 2012 Games.
Advice was offered to businesses from the Government on how to facilitate staff working from home.
Thanks to SaaS, this is an easily achievable task.
In fact, it’s not just possible, but a benefit in the long run to offer more flexible working.
Already Have What They Need
Companies, who already have remote workers, or multiple offices, would normally require expensive set up for Virtual Private Networks which enables all staff, no matter location, to access the same software and documents.
However, cloud computing can do this too, but all you need is an internet connection.
Not only does this reduce the time and money spent on complicated IT infrastructures, but it can mean your staff can work from almost anywhere: Their laptop becomes the office.
If some of your employees are parents or have a particularly long commute, this option could be one that keeps them from moving elsewhere.

Reaching Out Internationally
By simply having the option for flexible working (for example, in the event of a snow day) this trust and luxury can boost productivity and enhance job satisfaction.
As Cloud computing becomes more popular in the upcoming years, virtual offices can mean the main headquarters are able to downsize, cutting costs on everything to office furniture to electric bills.
It also gives you the added benefit of expanding your staff from geographical location.
Should your perfect candidate be positioned at the other side of the country, there is no reason they cannot stay at home, and access your company server from home.
This can be particularly beneficial for sales, which may be required to focus on a certain chunk of the country.
No Learning Curve
The wonderful thing about Cloud computing is that everyone is already familiar with this concept meaning that there will be a higher adoption rate and easy transition process.
We are all now familiar with accessing information from the internet as and when we required it, and the concept is really no different for Saas.
In fact, most will already be familiar with this through their e-mail providers, whether it is Yahoo or G-Mail.
You can access it anywhere.
Your personal settings and formatting, as well as attachments and documents, will always be readily available, with very little provisions to accommodate it: just an internet connection and a security login.
Conclusion
With flexible working, low upfront costs and high availability, as long as you take the security seriously upon implementation, we can expect to see Cloud computing turn many offices unto virtual workspaces in the future, benefitting both employees and companies alike.
